Will you tell us a story?

Today we had a storyteller come and visit to tell us myths in the oral tradition.

We were told three stories: a story about Anansi, the trickster god from West Africa (you can find a version here), a story about Sedna, an Inuit sea goddess (you can find a version here), and the Hebrew folktale of “Joseph-Who-Loves-The-Sabbath”.

While we didn’t have time to unpack these myths in-depth, students were overflowing with ideas about what the moral of the stories might be. We’re going to dig into these stories on Wednesday as we investigate theme, work on supporting our analysis of a story with evidence, and think about what makes something a myth. We can’t wait to hear what they have to say!
